“No one is coming to the rescue Chief!”( Ok, I added the word “Chief”.)
I heard Brian Tracy say this on the podcast. I almost laughed. I had waited and waited for someone to come and mentor me, someone to come and show me how to hire, someone to show me how to sell, and someone to show me how to code!! Alas, No one was coming to the rescue. We all make our own luck!
I waited for someone to come and show me how to run a startup. I looked for mentors online for this. I went for startup competitions hoping to stumble upon experienced veterans who had run startups-hopefully not to the ground and would be willing to mentor me.
I looked for someone to teach me to work with customers and to understand market needs. I looked and looked.
I looked for someone to teach me to be a grown-up.
And now I look back.
Life in many aspects is like a highway to nowhere and everywhere. You can decide to change direction at any time. You can decide to sit where you are. You can decide to board the next Ferrari, or you can decide to board the bus. You can decide to run the marathon, alone or with others. You can decide to learn anything and do anything. Or run slowly enjoying the unfolding present. Or take a flight to some new road(career) altogether.
No one is coming to the rescue. You can learn by listening, asking, and reading, but you must DO IT YOURSELF. You must raise yourself by your own bootstraps.
No one is coming to the rescue, ladies and gentlemen.
Have a nice day and get back to work!
